Session 1 Notes
Hey all, just wanted to give you an update: It should be noted that the Professor's death occurred almost two weeks prior to the current date, his body having been held at the Temple of Pharasma until arrangements could be made for a proper burial, and to give the sheriff time to properly investigate the death. I wanted to make sure you heard Kendra say the sheriff is the one who found her father and determined the cause of death, but more importantly, I wanted to remind you this is a world where common people are aware of magic and its uses, something the two divine casters might want to reflect upon. I'll let you think on that for now ;-)
The town is lorded over by a council of four members, one of which you met, and protected by the sheriff and a handful of deputies. Criminal violence is low as the prison is in ruins and the population itself is small enough (just slightly more than a population of 300) that everyone knows just about everyone else (although most children don't know many adults by first names *hint hint*), and today's happenings are yesterday's news almost before it happens.
Also, it should be noted that those of you who knew the Professor personally know that not only was he a renowned scholar and educator, he was also a wizard of some skill, something that at least some of the locals were aware of. Likewise Kendra is trained in the arcane arts, although she doesn't know if the townsfolk are aware of that (she has already stated that she was studying at the Academy, although what academy she means she hasn't said).
Finally, Kendra has been difficult to get much information out of because of her mourning, but she can clarify that the strange feeling she gets of something being off about the town has been going on for a little more than a week now, or as she put it, mostly since her father's death. As she said, she can't put her finger on it, but there's an undercurrent of unease amongst the locals, and their actions towards the party are more unusual than normal. Yes, they tend to be wary of strangers, but very rarely have they acted with such open hostility towards them. Granted, there are a couple of you who are strange indeed, and the half-orc would definitely stir up some resentment given the history of the land, but folk such as these would never threaten open violence without any provocation, or at least that's what she used to think.
All in all, good game tonight. Looking forward to our next session.
